Bradford on Avon

The attractive town of Bradford on Avon perches quietly on the banks of the Kennet & Avon Canal; a haven for boaters, canoeists and cyclists (who can hire all the equipment they need once they arrive).

Boaters cruising along the Kennet & Avon Canal can tie up at convenient visitor moorings in Bradford on Avon and explore the historic dock at leisure. Landlubbers can dip their toes in the water with a cruise on the trip boat – and see the sights of Wiltshire from a different perspective.

Bradford on Avon boasts plenty of pubs and restaurants, not least the popular Lock Inn Café which stands on the banks of the canal and offers guests a hearty breakfast, delicious lunches and superb evening meals. Work up an appetite with a walk along the towpath and take a visit.

Two annual highlights for the people of Bradford on Avon are the Raft Race and the Pancake Race. The Raft Race takes place in May and locals flock along the river to see the rafts competing to reach the finish line (Barton Bridge). The Pancake Race takes place on dry land – competitors carry their pancakes across the town bridge, toss them and then carry them back.
