Golcar is a small hillside village of weaver's cottages, steep streets and twisting leyways or 'ginnels' which Sir John Betjeman called the 'Provence of the North'. At the Colne Valley Museum in Golcar you can experience the intimate atmosphere of these former hand weavers cottages and working life during the mid 1800s.

The Colne Valley Circular Walk (printed by the Colne Valley Society) enables you to explore this valley of stark scenic beauty and imposing industrial architecture. The 13-mile route can be split into a number of shorter sections linking with public transport. Details are available at the museum or from the Society.
