Kelham Island Museum is a living and working Museum set on an island in the River Don near the centre of Sheffield. It tells the story of Sheffield over the last two centuries, including its metaphoric rise to becoming Steel Capital of the World.
You'll see all sorts of things there like George Stephenson's first 'reversing-link' engine, a Spitfire crankshaft and the 12,000 horsepower River Don steam engine.
You can also observe little mesters (specialised craftspeople) at work, or as a child, become part of the Melting Shop or try the hands-on science centre.
