Stanley Ferry Aqueducts

Yorkshire

Image for Stanley Ferry Aqueducts

An interesting pair of aqueducts side-by-side - one each from the 19th century and 20th century. The Victorian one is wrought iron, the 1981 Thatcherite one is concrete. Nearby Wakefield is a busy town with opportunities for shopping, eating and drinking. In the town and its immediate vicinity culture-lovers will discover Wakefield Art Gallery (01924 305796) and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (01924 830302). Historic houses to visit include Nostell Priory, Bretton Country Park and Heath Hall.
