Skipton

Skipton, the gateway to the Dales, occupies an enviable position on the banks of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal.

With a branch running east to Skipton Castle and the main line flowing past the town’s miniature golf course, the Leeds & Liverpool Canal is a convenient walking route for residents looking for a green and healthy way to get around town. Follow the towpath all the way to the shops and offices around the High Street, or leave the car at home and enjoy a canalside stroll to Skipton station en route to Leeds, Bradford or beyond. Relax in the evening with a walk along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal and enjoy a drink in the Royal Shepherd.

Skipton’s hidden history can be glimpsed in sidestreets, ‘ginnels’ and the town’s colourful marina. See familiar sights from a different perspective with a narrowboat trip or get on your bike and admire the Yorkshire countryside from the quiet towpath (please cycle carefully with attention to other towpath users).
