The company has been in operation as a family business for over 30 years and operates from a base located in the small market town of Macclesfield, in the foothills of the Pennines and as such gives access by canal to some of the finest scenery in the UK, being as we are on the "Cheshire Ring" of canals.
A cruise from Macclesfield can take you from 500 feet above sea level, down to the "Cheshire Plain" and in so doing, can give you phenomenal views. The most popular one-week cruise from Macclesfield is undoubtedly south towards Strafford and up the Caldon Canal; a route that cannot really be bettered anywhere on the canal system, as it ranges from rural, countryside areas to the hustle and bustle of a city.
Another popular route is Macclesfield to Chester, however this is somewhat more arduous in that it does involve a considerable number of locks, including "Heartbreak Hill" series from Kidsgrove to Middlewhich, but nevertheless has its own attractions in terms of scenic views. You could also modify this route to see the incredible Anderton Lift.
To the north of Macclesfield lies the Upper and Lower Peak Forest canals. These canals also form the "Cheshire Ring", along with the Ashton and Bridgewater canal. This tour is quite demanding and should only be undertaken by experienced crews as a one-week cruise. The topography varies very considerably between rural villages and the Manchester conurbation.
Crews of two need to be both physically fit for this route in a week.
