You can marvel at the ingenuity of the canal builder whose work, some 200 years ago, enables us all to enjoy one of the most rewarding activity holidays available. Your boat can be a base from where you can explore the surrounding countryside or visit the museums, theatres, cinemas, shopping centres and places of interest along your route.

We are fortunate to be able to offer you a variety of cruising routes covering all of the connected waterways of Northern England. You decide your route, where to stop and how far to go. It is your holiday to enjoy as you wish. Here, on the North's un-crowded waterways, you don't have to worry about water shortages at the height of the season, nor do you spend half your day queuing at locks.

Whatever you wish to do, you will find that one of the cruising routes from Selby will meet your needs.

The cruising route you choose will depend on your experience and the time you have available. In certain areas, British Waterways staff will operate the locks and bridges for you, leaving you to have a truly relaxing holiday without too much effort on your part. For crews wishing to do the work themselves, different routes are available; for the beginner, a mixture of both routes are possible to enable experience in boat handling to be gained before having to worry about operating the locks.
