Spectacular landscape garden dating back to the 18th century.
'Capability' Brown turned his hand to Sheffield Park's original design of sweeping lawns, trees and two serpentine lakes. 200 years later the inspired planting of owner Arthur Soames took Capability's vision forward and transformed the park into a magnificent woodland garden of international renown. Today, the original lakes have been extended into a chain of four with picturesque waterfalls linking one level to the next. The battlements of Wyatt's neo-Gothic mansion, commissioned by the first Lord Sheffield in 1775, are reflected in the shimmering waters.
The gardens are viewed at their best twice a year: in spring when swathes of bluebells cover the woodland glades and dramatic displays of daffodils command visitors' attention, and in October when the magnificent autumn foliage casts a colourful reflection in the still blue lakes. However, Sheffield Park's seasonal attractions are year-round, with rafts of water lilies blooming in the summer months and sheltered tree-lined walks fit for crisp winter afternoons.
