Unlike many fine properties, Beningborough Hall was not owned by the same family for hundreds of years. Little is known about it historically, such as who designed it or what the plans looked like. What is known, however, is that it was built by John Bourchier in 1716. He had just returned from travelling in Europe and was keen to build his own Italian palace.

The house is full of art, with 100 pictures being on loan from the National Portrait Gallery in London. There is work by Gainsborough, Reynolds and Kneller, among others. There is also an abundance of furniture, porcelain and a Victorian laundry.

The garden is also worth a visit as visitors can wander through aromatic borders and try and spot the liquorice plants.

Having been passed through various hands throughout its history, Beningborough Hall & Garden was eventually passed to the National Trust to preserve in 1958.

We offer:
