The museum tells the story of the Aire & Calder Navigation and the Port of Goole. The museum includes an archive of some 5000 historic local photographs.

Also at the site there boats to visit including a floating art gallery. It also offers a range of educational events for children and skills-based courses for adults. Day boat trip hire is available from the site as well as a shorter 45-minute Port of Goole History Tour.

A mile-long nature trail extends from the museum along the Aire & Calder towpath in the direction of Rawcliffe.
