Whitwell

  • Rutland

Whitwell village claims to be twinned with Paris - can its waterside park hold its own with the French capital's attractions?

It may not have the international cachet of such as the Eiffel Tower or the Tuileries, but the Whitwell recreation area is nonetheless popular with visitors from all across the East Midlands. An attractive open site with good views across Rutland Water, it is certainly more rural than Paris and - with a bike hire centre on site - the cycling is both easier and a good deal safer.

Refreshments are available from a small cafe. You can walk or cycle the perimeter path, perhaps through the woods to Barnsdale or along the shore to Sykes Lane.
