RSPB Strumpshaw Fen is in the heart of the Norfolk Broads, located close to the village of Brundall, and is part of the RSPB Mid Yare Nature Reserve. In 1997, Strumpshaw Fen was selected as a National Nature Reserve due to the recognition of it being one Britain’s best wildlife sites.

Visitors to Strumpshaw can expect to see an abundance of stunning wildlife, plants and flowers, with each season bringing its own delights. Throughout the autumn and winter, look out for ducks, bitterns, marsh and hen harriers, sparrowhawks and cetti’s warblers.

In the spring and summertime, visitors are greeted by cettis, reed and sedge warblers, ducks, grebes, marsh harriers, kingfishers, warblers, tits, woodpeckers and swallowtail butterflies. Flowering bluebells and foxgloves bring colour to the woods, and dragonflies such as the rare Norfolk hawker can be seen.

The reserve is also home to a number of enjoyable nature trails, which take you through varied habitats, including reedbeds and woodland. In the summer months, there is a special trail through a flower-filled meadow where you may see up to six species of orchid.

The nature reserve also has a visitor centre located close to the car park. Facilities for disabled visitors include toilets and a viewing platform.
