Cambrian Cruisers was established in 1988 by Ruth and Peter Griffiths. I am Jonathan, their younger son. From the age of twelve I was an eager helper only too keen to show off my narrowboat handling skills, sometimes with embarrassing consequences!
Twenty years on, I have now taken over the narrowboat hire business and run it with my partner, Camilla. Being involved from the beginning I have learned how important it is to provide the committed and professional service our guests deserve.
We pride ourselves on the quality of our hire narrowboats which are clean, modern, reliable and well equipped.
We look forward to welcoming you to this magnificent part of Britain to experience a unique and unforgettable narrowboat hire holiday along the Mon and Brec Canal.
OUR MARINA BASE
We are situated just outside Brecon, off the A40 and just one hour from the Severn bridge.
From our base at the northern end of the canal, you can easily make a waterway visit to Brecon and also be able to enjoy most of the interesting features of the canal, such as aqueducts, lift bridges, tunnel, locks, and fantastic views of the Brecon Beacons.
ITINERARY FOR 3/4 NIGHT SHORT BREAKS, 7 NIGHTS AND LONGER.
Many people taking a weeks holiday prefer to take advantage of the excellent footpaths above the canal that allow you to enjoy amazing views of the beautiful surroundings from higher up the hills. There are also many places where you can investigate the industrial heritage of the area from the days of coal mines, lime kilns and iron-making. This will still leave plenty of time to enjoy cruising on this wonderful canal and to experience the locks, lift-bridges, tunnel and aqueduct, and visit Abergavenny or Brecon on market days.
During a 3 or 4 night short-break you will have the opportunity to experience the most interesting stretch of the canal, where you will encounter the lift-bridges, tunnel and all the locks. You should also have time to traverse Brynich Aqueduct where the canal passes forty feet above the River Usk on its way to Brecon.
