The Stables building is the only remaining Stable Bloch being used on the Forth & Clyde Canal.

The building was first erected by the Forth & Clyde Canal company in 1812 and the reason for there being a stable block here was to allow a place to rest the horses which pulled the barges along the canal. As the highest point on the Forth & Clyde Canal, it was very important for there to be a resting point for the men and horses.

The Stables is now a well know country pub and restaurant in an out of town destination. Food is available everyday from 12 noon until 10pm and, along with a huge selection of wine, makes the Stables a very popular place among walkers and boaters.

We offer:

  • Restaurant
  • Pubs + bars

  • Food
    • Family friendly
