Seckar Wood Nature Reserve
Seckar Lane
Woolley
Wakefield
Yorkshire
WF4 2LE
E: countrysideinterp@wakefield.gov.uk
Seckar Wood is beautiful old woodland once owned by the Wentworth family of Woolley Hall.
Today, after open casting in the 1940s, the site is a mixture of dry heath, wet heath and woodland habitats rich in wildlife.
The dry heath is a sea of purple heather in late summer, while unusual mosses and sedges grow in the wet heath, making this one of the five Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in the district.
