Staffordshire based narrowboat Hawkesbury, a 1937 'Big Woolwich' has started the 2010 holiday season with a range of novel 'Skippered charters', day charters for up to ten clients and holidays sleeping four max.
Providing an alternative to self steer or hotel boat holidays, for up to four people Hawkesbury has a liveaboard feel to her with solid fuel stoves and a dog-friendly traditional interior.
A resident Skipper (in the evenings, happily ensconsed in the back cabin with his dog, radio and a book) takes the pressure off doing all the work yet guests are more than welcome at the tiller and working the locks.
Not sharing with other guests and self catering accomodation give you freedom to set your own pace. Older boaters who would appreciate a hand and parents of younger children who need to have more of an eye on the child than working the boat seem to appreciate Hawkesbury in particular. She also makes a very good location for a romantic evening or two away.
Midweek breaks, weekends and longer charters are available until November.
Also available aboard Hawkesbury are corporate charters, boat handling courses and youth training courses (including special needs).
