Nestled at the bottom of the famous 'staircase' of ten Foxton Locks on the Grand Union Canal, this picturesque inn is the perfect place to enjoy a pint and some excellent food while exploring the history and beauty of Foxton Locks Country Park.

Open all day, every day, you can pop in to refresh with a pot of tea or a pint of award-winning real ale – there are six to choose from, or enjoy a leisurely pub lunch on the heated waterside terrace.

Dinner can be a romantic occasion, with a pretty view of the softly lit canal and warm hospitality provided by the friendly staff. Whatever your reason for visiting, the Foxton Locks Inn ensures a fantastic ambience and delicious food.

Head chef Lee Keenan’s menu offers traditional classics delivered extremely well. To start, tuck into fresh devilled white bait, Scottish smoked salmon or homemade chicken parfait with red currant compote – just a few of the tempting choices available.

The main course dishes offer a good selection of chicken, steak, fish and vegetarian dishes – choose local 21-day-aged 8oz sirloin steak, or opt for homemade free-range chicken Kiev.

If seafood is your thing, try the fish pie, brimming with prawns, salmon and cod and topped with perfect mash and cheese, or keep it truly traditional with home-battered fish and chips – fresh Atlantic cod in Lee’s own recipe batter, served with chunky chips, mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce.

Vegetarians can indulge in dishes such as vegetable lasagne, comprising a selection of the freshest and finest vegetables available.

As well as the traditional bar menu, seasonal produce is used to create weekly specials – you can expect to find delights such as grilled sea bass with baby spinach, or a dressed crab salad with fresh watercress, red chard and minted new potatoes.

If you’re popping in to refuel at lunchtime, a selection of delicious snacks will greet you. Baguettes are available – with fillings such as smoked salmon or ham off the bone, plus hearty jacket potatoes and a traditional Ploughman’s with Brie or ham.

On Sundays a traditional lunch menu is served, including two roast options, fish of the day, and a number of weekly specials.

Booking is essential for Sunday lunch, and for most evenings, due to the amount of diners wanting to enjoy this inn’s excellent cuisine and atmosphere.

A great family pub, Foxton Locks Inn is child friendly, complete with baby changing facilities, and provides a separate children’s menu. They also welcome dogs on the heated terrace and at three specially assigned tables inside – so there’s no need for dog-walkers to go without.

The old boathouse next door has been lovingly renovated into a 35-seater function room, with its own private waterside terrace.

If you’re looking for a fantastic family day out, or a beautiful setting for a romantic meal, head to Foxton and treat yourself at this wonderful pub.
