Restriction: From Broadgate to Stamp End Lock

Waterway: River Witham »

From 03/01/2012 to 24/12/2012

UPDATE (11 April 2012): A solution to these works has been found which avoids the need for a navigation closure.

Lincolnshire County Council have found a way to deliver the required works without the need for lowering water levels.

Boaters can now travel along the navigation again.

Lincolnshire County Council, in discussion with the Environment Agency, wish to carry out works to the river wall alongside Waterside South in Lincoln.

It is expected that these works will require British Waterways (BW) to close the River Witham to boats on two occasions in 2012.

The condition of the wall necessitated the closure of Waterside South in Lincoln in 2011 and, although LCC carried out some repairs, it would appear that more extensive works are needed, requiring water levels to be lowered.

The closure will take effect from Broadgate to Stamp End Lock, a length of approximately 500m and each closure is anticipated to last two weeks.

The precise programme of works and exact dates are still to be agreed, but BW has requested that the works are scheduled to avoid the busiest times for navigation thereby minimising disruption to its boating customers.

BW would like to apologise for any inconvenience the closure causes and will provide more up to date information when it is agreed.
