To cycle on the towpath of the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal, you will need a permit from British Waterways. You can download one free of charge on the cycling page.Some sections of the South Yorkshire Navigation are undergoing some improvements and upgrading as some parts are not completely suitable for cyclists and walkers alike.

This route takes you along the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal and the River Don. Starting from Bernard Road Bridge cycle along the canal towpath. When you get to Attercliffe, you will cross paths with the Lower Don Valley Cylce Route. Continue along the towpath and you will cross over Coleridge Road. At this point you will be able to see Sheffield Arena on your left. You will then cross paths with the Trans-Pennine Trail. Carry on cycling along the towpath and you will pass Valley Centertainment and Meadowhall Retail Park on your left. Further along the towpath you will see Meadowhall Shopping Centre on your left and you will come to the River Don.Turn left at this point and cycle along the Trans-Pennine Trail for a short distance before that goes right and you continue straight on along the Five Weirs Walk, which is being developed by the Five Weirs Walk Trust. You will cycle past Meadowhall Shopping Centre. This part of the route takes you along the banks of the River Don and past Sheffield Arena, through Attercliffe and ending at Blonk Street, a short walk from where you began.
