Burbage to Pewsey via Savernake Forest

Let the Wiltshire Wigglybus help you on this delightful route through the wildlife haven of Savernake Forest.

1: Burbage Take the Connect2Wiltshire bus from Devizes or Pewsey to Burbage. At the roundabout, take the third exit towards Stibb Green and pass the post office. At Stibb Green, bear right and pass the Savernake Forest Hotel on the right, cross the canal over the Bruce Tunnel and head towards Durley. After approximately one mile, turn left up the Savernake Forest Grand Avenue.

Take time to explore the 200-year-old beech-lined avenues and keep an eye out for owls, sparrow hawks and buzzards. Though it is private property, the Forest's owners permit extensive public access to the forest. However, visitors are asked to note that there are no vehicle rights of way, nor any public footpaths, anywhere in the Forest.

Exit the forest at the western A346 side and continue down the A346 until the turning for Wootton Rivers: this can be a busy road so take care.

2: Wootton Rivers Upon entering Wootton Rivers, just after the Royal Oak pub, turn right for Clench. After ½ mile turn left at the T-junction following Sustrans Route 4 after crossing the canal at New Mill. Bear round to the right but cross the train track. At the crossroad after ½ mile turn right and follow the road to Pewsey. From here follow the signs to the station and return to Devizes by the Connect2Wiltshire bus.
