Suitable for: The whole route is fairly new so this makes for a comfortable and easily accessible ride along surfaced paths.
Starts at: Waterside South
Ends at: Station Road Bardney
The Water Rail Way is part of the National Cycle Network and stretches for nine miles alongside the River Witham, from Lincoln to Bardney. One section follows a length of disused railway line between Five Mile Bridge and Bardney.
Waypoints
The route begins from Waterside South, near to Lincoln train station, and takes you to the former railway line. From here a surfaced path brings you past the village of Washingborough and on to Five Mile Bridge, where you can enjoy picturesque views of the river.

If you take a slight detour here along Five Mile Lane you can treat yourself to a rest and a delicious cake at the Barn Nursery and Tea Room. At this point you can choose to make this a circular route and head back to Lincoln, or carry on along the riverside path to Bardney Lock.

At the lock British Waterways has installed information boards pointing out former Bronze Age sites and giving you advice on what wildlife to look out for. Keep an eye out for owl and bat boxes along the way if you are cycling in the evening.
