Waypoints
1. Penistone to Grenoside (10.5 miles / 16.8km)
Turning onto the National Cycle Network path, you will follow this and arrive in Grenoside. Here, there are shops, pubs, cafes, a post office, telephone and toilets.
2. Grenoside to Darnall (12 miles / 19.2km)
Turning right will also take you along the River Don, this time towards Darnall. Meadowhall Shopping Centre will be on your left and further down Sheffield Arena will also be on you left before arriving in Sheffield, where there is a train station, tourist information, pubs, shops, cafes, a post office, toilets, telephones and places to stay. You will cycle for a very short distance along the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal and then join the National Cycle Route to Darnall, passing Carbrook Ravine Nature Reserve and High Hazels park along the way. In Darnall you will find a train station, pubs, shops and a post office.
3. Darnall to Beighton (5 miles / 8km)
Continue along the National Cycle Network, over the B6065 and B6064 which are dangerous parts of the route. You will pass the Shirebrook Valley Visitor Centre along Stone Lane and into Beighton on Sothall Gardens. In Beighton, you will find pubs, shops, a post office and somewhere to stay.
4. Beighton to Staveley (6 1/4 miles / 10km)
Cycle to the bottom of Sothall Gardens and then turn left onto the National Cycle Network which will take you past Rother Valley Lake and along the River Rother. You will pass Oxclose and Kilmarsh and Renishaw, where there is parking available, a pub, shops and places to stay. The route continues along the B6419 for a short distance and further down the National Cycle Network will split into two. It is when the route separates into two that you are at Stavely.
5. Staveley to Chesterfield ( 5.5 miles / 8.8km)
Turning right, the National Cycle Network takes you along the Chesterfield Canal, past Barrow Hill Engine Sheds and eventually past Tapton Lock Visitor Centre and into Chesterfield. There are pubs, cafes, shops, a post office, toilets, telephones and places to stay in Chesterfield. Chesterfield Train Station is near where the route concludes.
