Cycling the Trans-Pennine Trail in Warrington will give you the chance to travel through the countryside and see some of England's industrial heritage.

Waypoints

1. Spike Island

The route begins from Spike Island and takes you along the towpath of the Sankey Canal (St. Helens Canal) and then across the River Mersey to Chester Road. From here, you will pass the former Warrington Dock and travel through Wilderspool and Latchford as you ride along the Manchester Ship Canal until you arrive at Knutsford Road.

2. Knutsford Road

The trail leaves the Manchester Ship Canal at Knutsford Road swing bridge. You will cross the canal and then cycle along Thelwall New Roadn towards Latchford Locks. When you get to the locks, you will see the route continues on the other side of the canal - this section of the route was the former Timperley to Garston Railway.

3. Timperley to Garston Railway

Continue along the former railway and you will cycle will arrive at the Ranger Centre, having gone through Grappenhall, Thelwall and Lymm. If you were to continue from here, you will go through open countryside, across the Bollin Valley and, eventually, into Altrincham.
