Waypoints
1. Whitehave Harbour to Moor Row Village
You will begin the route at the Marina which is dominated by the Harbour Beacon. After negotiating the busy harbour and market area, the dock yacht basin having a constant head, you start the route out of town past the Whitehaven Rugby League Ground to Esk Avenue egress. This is also the Sea to Sea Route. Leaving Esk Avenue, you enter an apparent out of place woodland route, which brings you to the rail under pass cattle crossing and follow the beck route out of Whitehaven. Pass the Artwork and pigeon lofts at Valley School and St Benedicts and join the immediate countryside of Low Hall Farm. The uplifted rail route gives long views down the St Bees Valley. A cycle link is being prepared to allow easy access to the delightful coast resort with its ancient school. The village is dominated by the cliffs of St Bees Head. Following the Sea to Sea cycle route brings us to Moor Row Village with small shop. You can join the route to Egremont nearby.
2. Moor Row Village to Cleator Moor
At Moor Row the Coast to Coast Walk intertwines with the cycle route. As you continue the hills of Ennerdale Valley begin to appear as well as views of the village Cleator. As Cleator Moor's Phoenix Centre's Tower comes into view, the link along McKenzies Lonnen to the Ainfield Centre is available if early bike repairs or afterthoughts are needed. The track now runs through wooded areas. Various access routes are available to join into Cleator Moor town. Many facilities are available, all nestling around the old mining town's square, made famous by the paintings of L S Lowry who was a regular visitor to the town. After refreshment you can carry on the Sea to Sea Route or take the incline back to Whitehaven.
