Lively pubs, restaurants and bars
Fancy a sparkling night out?
Pumping tunes and partying people, the perfect place for an alcohol-fuelled night on the town. Put the fizz into Friday at one of our lively pubs and bars.
For a more lively night out in Bristol, we recommend:

Havana
Address: Havana, 26-28 St Nicholas Street
BS1 1UB
T: 0117 929 0313
The pretty waterside terrace at Havana is perfect for whiling away summer afternoons; the splendid array of whisky (13 different brands) and the seemingly endless list of South American wines offer equally fine accompaniment to celebratory evenings. A cheerful café/bar appealing mainly to the younger crowd. Pull up a pew and enjoy tapas, cocktails and all day breakfasts for under a fiver. Preferably not all at the same time.
Il Bordello
Address: Welsh Back
BS1 4SB
T: 0117 925 3500
There’s nothing too racy about Il Bordello’s bright hanging baskets, or about the metal patio furniture adorning the deck. In fact, the only bawdy elements to this moored-up Dutch barge are the bright red canopies and colourful signs. However, once you’ve walked the plank and clambered down into the bowels of the boat, its alter ego as a bohemian retreat and artists’ hangout becomes apparent with leather sofas, deep red walls and crazy murals.

Bed Bar
Address: King Street
BS1 4ER
Bed is appropriately located opposite Il Bordello, but everything about the white painted bar seems entirely above board. Inside, the mish mash of furnishings creates a homely and welcoming air. The exposed brickwork in the bar is typical of a pizzeria – but the black leather sofas and ceam walls upstairs firmly position Bed as an urbane, contemporary bar.
Hole in the Wall
Address: 2 The Grove
BS1 4QZ
The Hole in the Wall is anything but. This pub is vast. Painted white and adorned with flower-boxes and old-fashioned lamps, only the busy main road detracts from an otherwise pleasing exterior. Inside, the Hole in the Wall is a conventional Beefeater offering slot machines, burgers and special meal deals.

El Puerto
Address: 57 Prince Street
BS1 4QH
T: 0117 925 6014
Nestled snugly in red-brick and boasting bright pillar-box paintwork, El Puerto exudes all the cheerful warmth of Spain. Inside, the wine flows liberally and the menu is as authentic and extensive as you could hope for. Tapas features, of course, but so do traditional meat and seafood main meals. Salads are available for the figure-conscious. On Sunday nights, the stone flagged floor is a perfect stage for Flamenco dancing. Olé!
Lloyds No.1
Address: The Waterfront
BS1 4SB
Part of the Wetherspoons chain, Lloyds No. 1 bars are popping up all over the country and Bristol is no exception. The large bar is open from breakfast until late into the night. The staff are friendly and polite, no matter what time of day it is and if it’s a greasy fried breakfast hangover cure you’re looking for, you could do worse.

Chicago Rock Cafe
Address: Canons Road
BS1 5UH
T: 0117 929 1361
As with most bar chains, Bristol’s Chicago Rock Café is pretty much like all the others. That’s not to say that it’s not a good place to go. For lunch, an afternoon drink or a night of dancing, the bar caters to every need and the atmosphere is always lively.
