Lively pubs, restaurants and bars

Fancy a sparkling night out?

With Pumping tunes and partying people, Albert Dock is the perfect place for an alcohol-fuelled night on the town. Put the fizz into Friday at one of our lively pubs and bars.

For a lively night out in Liverpool, we recommend:

Baby Cream

Address: Edward Pavilion
Liverpool, L3 4AF
T: 0151 7097097

Baby Cream is the reserve of the young and the beautiful - and those who enjoy dining to the melodious strains of pumping dance tunes. In the evening, candle-light casts a gothic glow over the cavernous interior. By daylight, the ornate candelabras seem slightly incongruous against a background of red and black leather. The café/restaurant menu is extensive, swinging from Louisiana Hotwings to English High Tea. Not the usual setting for cucumber sandwiches!

Blue Bar & Grill

Address: Edward Pavillion
Liverpool, L3 4AF
T: 0151 7097097

Whether you want a quick coffee on an afternoon, or a crisp, cold glass of wine (or two) on an evening, then you couldn't choose better than the Albert Dock's Blue Bar. Choose from wide comfy sofas or a quiet table for two, the service from the staff alone is likely to make you return.

Ha Ha Bar & Canteen

Address: Atlantic Pavilion
Liverpool, L3 4AE
T: 0151 707 7877

It's not a comedy club, but it does have the feel good factor and most customers will find something to smile about on the menu. 'Proper cooking' is a nod to any passing gourmands, 'lazy breakfasts' make the student crowd happy and weight-watchers can keep their consciences clear with the 'figure friendly' options. Ha Ha is the perfect place to meet friends and while away a few hours. It's bright and spacious with big comfy sofas, skinny chips and uninterrupted views of Albert Dock.

Leo Casino

Address: Queens Dock, 44 Chaloner Street
Liverpool, L3 4BF
T: 0151 709 8878

If you love a flutter on the poker table, and like to look out onto a fast flowing river, then why not combine the two and take a trip to Leo Casino. The casino has been described as the most attractive casino in the UK, so may well be worth a visit just to see why. If gambling isn't quite your thing, then Leo's is also home to a restaurant and two bars.

Mersey Ferries

Address: The Pier Head Terminal, Georges Parade
Liverpool, L3 1DP
T: 0151 2272660

info@merseyferries.co.uk

Burgers, fish and chips, chicken curry, all washed down with a beer while you wait for the boat to come in - no-one pretended the ferry terminal cafe was going to be haute cuisine, but it fills a hole. There's a good gift shop at the terminal, too. For a slightly less frenetic experience, go round the corner to the Mocha Cafe Bar.

The Pan American Club (Albert Dock)

Address: Britannia Pavilion
Liverpool, L3 4AD
T: 0151 7025849

There's a distinct retro feel to the leather-covered bar, the high-back, blood-red sofas and the gaint disco ball hanging in the centre of the ceiling, unfortunately the rest of the décor is best described as dated. The finger-food menu favours sandwiches, platters and something called 'sticky chicken fingers'. A placard in the front windows promotes a 'champagne lounge', which may well deliver on the promised luxury but we didn't stay to find out.

Pumphouse

Address: The Colonnades
Liverpool, L3 4AA
T: 0151 709 2367

The two towers of the Pumphouse (one tall and one short) may contribute to its popularity - they ensure it can be seen for miles around. But this traditional pub, once the pumping station for the Albert Docks, needs no gimmicks to bring in the crowds. Good beer, sweeping views of the docks and friendly service ensure a loyal clientele. That said, surely no self-respecting Liverpudlian local would serve up a dish called 'Old House Scouse'…
