The Dove
Address: 19 Upper Mall
W6
T: 020 8748 9474Turn down the quiet, leafy alleyway leading to the Dove and leave your troubles with the roar of the road behind you. The Dove would not be out of place on a country lane; its beamed low ceilings and home cooked menu rendolent of a rural auberge. Cosy corners by the fireplace beckon on wintery evenings, summer Sundays can be whiled away on the riverside terrace and come the weekend, the Dove’s nooks and crannies are choc a block with happy diners.

Rutland Ale House
Address: 15 Lower Mall
W6 9DJ
T: 020 8748 5586Blue paintwork gives the Rutland something of a nautical air; its majestic frontage and big arched windows imply historic gravitas and the range of events chalked up (very artistically) on the blackboards announce that this is the place to party. Trendy creations, such as sun dried tomato garlic bread, spice up the menu of pasta, burgers and fish ‘n’ chips – fine for dining with friends, especially if the weather is clement and you can relax on the picnic tables lined up by the river.

Blue Anchor
Address: 13 Lower Mall
Hammersmith, W6 9DJ
T: 020 8748 5774
E: louis.blueanchor@btconnect.comThe Blue Anchor is the demure neighbour of the attention-grabbing Rutland. But once inside, a proud sign announces that this is one of the oldest ale houses in the country (first licensed in 1722) and also that Gustave Holst wrote his Hammersmith Suite here. Frank Sinatra was making his voice heard on our visit, and an extensive wine list suggested that the Blue Anchor has moved beyond its ale house routes. Having undergone an extensive refurbishment in 2008, the cosy furniture and spruced up decor ensure that the Blue Anchor remains a popular venue.

Riverside Studios
Address: Crisp Road
Hammersmith, W6 9RL
T: 020 8237 1009Get a dose of culture in Hammersmith’s Riverside Studios. The sparkling glass exterior is an overture of chic. The industrial steel décor, funky music and contemporary artwork do not disappoint – once you’ve negotiated your way past the ticket desk in reception. Lunch on the River Terrace is a cool way to celebrate the weekend and functional signs to the building’s working studios authenticate the experience… you might even spot a celeb.

Crab Tree Tavern
Address: Rainville Road
Hammersmith, W6 9HA
T: 020 7385 3929Set apart from the milieu of Hammersmith riverside pubs, the Crab Tree is an attractive pub of impressive size which boasts the single most important asset for British BBQ’s - outdoor heaters! Signs proudly advertise the ‘Sun Terrace’ - but the landlord took the precaution of adding a cover. Sensible chap. French windows make the vast interior even more light and airy, and you could spend hours deciding what to have from the extensive menu chalked onto a huge blackboard.
