A Loweswater Round captivates many aspects of Lake District topography: the route climbs Low Fell and Darling Fell with superb views down onto this quiet and peaceful lake, and at the same time the view extends from the Solway Coast and Scottish hills to the north right around to the Vale of Lorton and heights of Grasmoor and Robinson, Crummock Water with Buttermere and the high fells beyond.
1. Start - from Maggie's Bridge N.T. Car Park. Turn left and almost immediately right, through gate signed to High Nook Farm. Pass through farmyard and continue up track, keeping right when it bifurcates. Go down to beck and cross bridge. A firm track (Old Corpse Road) goes round side of Carling Knott and above Holme Wood.2. Shortly after a gate take stile over wall into Holme Wood. Down a fairly steep woodland path turn left at forest road, gradually down to pause beside Holme Force. Continue down track to meet main track beside Loweswater.3. Turn left to emerge through gate to track beside field and then lane up to Hudson Place. Keep right on farm road until Footpath sign by a gate indicates crossing two fields to the \"main\" road.4. Turn right, pass telephone box, and shortly find footpath down by the lake. Shortly after this path goes back to the road Turn sharp left. Signposted to \"Mosser\" 'Unfit for Cars'. Climb steadily, pass an inviting seat and continue to \"Public Footpath to Foulsyke\" signpost on right.5. A fairly steep ascent takes the path to the top of Darling Fell, down into the cleft made by the Crabtree Beck and sharply up on the other side to the summit of Low Fell. This is the highest point of the walk.6. It really is almost straight down the side of Raven Crag (path steep and may be slippery with mud in wet weather) to Pottergill.7. On gaining the farm track at the bottom turn right, and keep straight ahead along to Foulsyke. Turn right along lane to \"main\" road, turn right and shortly left to narrow lane back to Starting Point at Maggie's Bridge.
