When setting off from the Information Centre, you will turn right along Bridge Street before crossing over the bridge. After passing Darby Brothers woodyard, you will need to turn right and go over the stile before following the path of the river. You will pass Gillingham Marshes on your left which was traditionally a grazing marsh for both cattle and sheep. The wool from the sheep was of such high quality that it was the main industry for the region. Continue walking along the towpath and you will come to Boathouse Hill Cottages on your left.

2. Boathouse Hill Cottages to Dunburgh

From here, you need to turn left past the cottages and through Hill Farm. (At this point, you will not be walking along the river). Turn left down the track, after which you will need to cross a main road before walking through Gillingham and Dunburgh villages. Just after Monor House Farm on your left and Dunburgh Hill on your right, you will arrive back at the River Waveney.
