Duration: 1.5 hours

Circular route from: At the church by the fort

Close to Breydon Water, where the Rivers Yare and Waveney meet and flow out to sea at Great Yarmouth. The highlight of this walk is the Roman fort which dates back to the late third century. The views from the fort over the marshland and river are fantastic.

From the church with its distinctive round tower walk around the fortification, along part of the Angles Way. Look out for birds in the flooded Glebe Marshes.

Join the River Waveney and head south following the river past the Fisherman's Bar and Marina and Boat Yard until you reach the mooring.

Once here, turn around and walk back the way you came, along the river, but this time walk the other way around the castle to get you back to the car park on Church Road.

Getting there

Parking: The church has car parking, if you are arriving by car. If you are arriving by boat the best place to start this walk is at the mooring on the River Waveney south of the fort.

Public transport: Access by boat or by car is fairly straightforward.
