Cross Bridge street and walk past Chepstow Museum - an elegant 18th century town house which tells the history of Chesptow and the surrounding area. Continue walking towards the river, past historic St Anne Street and the Bridge Inn.

2. The Old Wye Bridge

The centre of the Old Wye Bridge actually marks the boundary between England and Wles, making it possible to stand with one foot in each country. However, should you wish to do this you will need to retrace your steps back across the bridge before turning left towards the riverside and port area. Once known as the Gunstock Wharf, this restful area was a busy export dock during the 18th and 19th centuries. You are now walking along 'The Back' which runs through the site of the old dry dock and conveniently leads to the Boat Inn - time for a break?

3. Lower Church Street

Continue along The Back passing the Riverside Mill apartment block. Downstream you will see the new Road Bridge which opened in 1988 to relieve the Old Wye Bridge of the main traffic journeying to Gloucester. Lower Church Street is the road leading up from the river and towards town. Rows of houses typical of the 19th century working class line this street and at the very top stands St Mary's Church.

4. St Mary's Church

Directly in front of St Mary's Church you will see Upper Church Street. A short stroll along here will lead you to Bridge Street and the Tourist Information Centre - the starting point of your walk.
