Waypoints
1. Cogglesford Water Mill
Follow the Sleaford Navigation from the car park towards the town, passing by the Lollycocks Field nature reserve. Walk through Mill Court into Money's Yard and come out onto Southgate - Sleaford's main shopping street. Continue by the river through the Riverside Shoppping Centre and along the river bank until you come to the last of the houses.
2. Along the river bank
After a while you will pass under the Sleaford to Lincoln railway line and then, a little later, the old (1917) Great Northern Railway line. People wanting a shorter walk can follow this track to the right and return to Sleaford. Otherwise, follow the footpath through the wood and notice the variety of birdlife, shrubs and trees. When you come out of the wood, take extra care crossing the busy western bypass and then rejoin the riverside footpath towards Rauceby Hall and South Rauceby village.
3. Rauceby
Before reaching Boiling Wells Farm, leave the river and turn right alongside a hawthorn hedge. Cross over a stile and go through an area of grass-land. Notice the water tower of Rauceby Hospital to your left. After a short while you will reach the edge of an abandoned limestone quarry. Follow the path through the quarry and out, through woodland, into Pinfold Lane. Turn right, passing by Hall Farm on your left.
4. Back to Sleaford
Follow the footpath alongside pleasant woodlands. When you reach the edge of the wood, leave the track and walk straight ahead towards Holdingham - to your right you will see St Denys' church towers. As you reach Field Farm, the path links up with The Drove. Follow this old route to your right towards Sleaford, retracing your steps across the bypass and along the railway line until you reach Sleaford's Northgate. Turn right to the Market Place, then left along Eastgate, and you will return to Coggleford Mill
