The Lost Valley is a vast dip in the mountains, thought to have been created by an icecap which formed on Rannoch Moor. The valley has much historical interest as it was here that the MacDonald clan are alleged to have hidden their 'rustled' cattle.
Getting there
Parking: To reach the car park, take the A82 towards the 'Meeting of the Three Waters' waterfall. Soon, on the right hand side, you will see a car park. Pass this one and drive on to the upper car park - also the the right.
Waypoints
1. Along the old road
Look down from the car park in the direction of the river (unfortunately you cannot see the river due to the depth of the gorge) and you will notice the old road. Walk down to the old road and turn to the left. Before long you will reach some wooden steps which take you down to a bridge over the river.
2. The Three Sisters of Glencoe
Cross the bridge and clamber over the rocks at the other side to reach the path. Follow the clearly marked path as it rises steeply between Beinn Fhada and Gearr Aonach - two of the three sisters of Glencoe. Cross a deer fence and a narrow burn.
3. Into the Lost valley
Tiring walkers can take heart in the fact the the final rise of the route leads into the Lost Valley. As you ascend the incline the valley reaches out beside and in front of you - all the way to Bidean nam Bean. Take the time to wander the valley and imagine it as it was, years ago, a hideout for cattle rustlers and MacDonalds on the wrong side of the law. Return to the car park via the same route.
