Fradley Junction Walk 1
Route facts
Waterways:
Trent & Mersey Canal »
Distance: 4.47 miles / 7.2 km
Duration: 2 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Circular route from: Fradley Junction
This Lichfield District Council walk is one in a series. It shows you quite a lot of the Trent & Mersey Canal plus there is plenty of opportunity for wildlife spotting en route.
From Fradley Junction, walk along the towpath in a south-westerly direction. Go past Middle Lock and then cross the next bridge over the canal (number 52). Cross the stile on the right of the gate and walk down the field with the hedge on your right back to the canalside, then follow the canalside through woodland.
After exiting from the wood, continue with the canal and then follow the hedge leftwards away from the canal onto the road. Turn right and walk along the road (beware of traffic) for approximately one mile, keeping right at the road junction. On reaching a bungalow on the left, go right along a farm track, with both a footpath signpost and a sign for Ravenshaw House.
Continue through the woodland and where the track swings sharp right, go left to follow the well-marked path at the edge of the wood. At the end of the wood, go over the stile alongside the gate and continue up the field with the hedge on your left, bearing left onto a farm track. Continue along the track to the road. Turn right along the road, cross the canal bridge, then go right again to join the canal towpath. Now walk along the towpath in a north-easterly direction back to Fradley Junction.
