This pleasant walk gives you the chance to see two canals - the Trent & Mersey and the Coventry Canals - as well as an insight into village life here, crossing Alrewas Village cricket ground and passing through Fradley village.
From Fradley Junction walk along the canal towpath in a north-easterly direction. Cross the road and continue with the canal as far as Bagnall Lock (approximately 1.25 miles), turning right over the bridge, no. 49. Now go straight ahead, in front of the garages and turn left at the end along a narrow path to enter the playing ground.
Follow the rails around to the right which mark the boundary of the cricket field, past the pavilion and climb the stile to the right of the gate. Now go straight across the field to the stile in the hedge ahead and cross this onto the roadside. Cross the road and go over the stile in front, then go half left across the next field to the stile in the hedge just before the field corner.
Cross this, turn left and walk along the road for 10 metres or so, then go left over the stile alongside the oak tree. Follow the well marked path half right to another stile in the hedge ahead, cross, and continue in the same direction to go through the hedge ahead on a concrete bridge.
Now walk down the edge of the field with the hedge on your left, finally crossing the hedge ahead onto a track, in front of a cream painted house. Turn right and after a few yards go over the left hand of two stiles. Walk down the field with the hedge on your right, and then cross the stile alongside the gate in front.
Go straight across the field ahead, past a holly tree and between the houses onto a road. Turn right and walk along the road, ignoring all turn-offs as far as the cillage church. Just past the church cross the road and go left down the signposted driveway.
After passing in front of the house, go through the right hand of the two gates and continue with the hedge on your left through the next gate. Conitnue on a cinder track in front of the cottages, then through the pedestrian gate onto the canal towpath, turn right and follow it back to the Junction.
