Construction on this stretch of the Forth & Clyde Canal was begun in 1784 and took six years to complete. It was the last stretch to be constructed. Of particular interest are two of only six remaining bascule bridges, unique to the Forth & Clyde Canal - at Bard Avenue and at Linnvale.

From Great Western Road, walk up to the culvert at Duntreath Avenue - a section which is particularly brimming with wildlife and keen anglers.

Enter the tunnel at Duntreath Avenue to emerge with a view of the Kilpatrick Hills and further in the distance, Loch Lomond.

Continue to reach the shopping centre at Clydebank - an interesting dimension to this walk.

Should you wish to return to the start you can opt to follow the towpath on the north bank back to the culvert at Duntreath Avenue.

Getting there

Parking: There's parking at Clydebank Mall and off Bard Avenue, a little way up from the starting point.
