Circular route from: Little Salkeld

This walk is particularly interesting, consisting of extraordinary man made caves carved out of red sandstone by Colonel Lacy, and at Little Salkeld village, an impressive Prehistoric Stone Circle called Long Meg and her Daughters.

From the car park walk towards the railway line through Little Salkeld. Initially following alongside the railway, take the track north past Throstle Hall until the path takes you away from the railway and alongside the River Eden.Follow the River until you reach the main road between Kirkoswald and Glassonby, at which junction you should turn right and follow the B road into Glassonby.Follow the road south, taking a right towards Addingham Church, then turning left to follow the public footpath which takes you past the Stone Circle and back into Little Salkeld and your starting point.
