This leisurely walk takes you on a historical journey beside marvels of engineering that opened up Yorkshire to the industrial revolution, alongside the waterway where once vital cargoes were carried to and from the growing mill towns.

Head towards the canal from the station. Walk down to the towpath from the bridge over the canal on Park Road, towards Three Rise Locks, a distance of 0.5 miles. Five Rise Locks are another 0.5 miles from here.

Once past Five Rise Locks you can walk through increasingly scenic Pennine countryside all the way to Skipton (and beyond, if you would like).

From here you can catch a Metro service back to your starting point.

Getting there

Parking: There is a public car park beside the railway station.

Public transport: Metro services are within short distances of many points on the canal between Leeds and Skipton, and allow for one-way walks. Regular local train services run to Bingley Station. By car, the station is just off the Main Street, the A650.
