A pleasant walk which is further enhanced in spring when the bluebells are in full bloom. The climb up Kymin Hill is well rewarded by fine views of historic Monmouth and people eager for a longer outing can take an alternative route home which follows part of the Wye Valley Walk.

Walking boots are recommended as paths can be slippery.

Start your walk on Monmouth Bridge which crosses the Wye by the A40. For the first few minutes the roar of traffic may accompany you along the A4136 as you follow the sharp bend to the left, but do not fear, peace will return. Clearly marked on your right is the entrance to the Offa's Dyke footpath which follows the road for approximately 500 metres before joining Kymin Road. Climb uphill for no more than 250 metres and then enter Garth Wood - still on the Offa's path.

Ah, the sound of silence. Enjoy your stroll along this pleasant woodland path up the hill, through the open field and then up the hill again. At the top you can catch your breath before taking the path to the right which leads to the 18th century Kymin Tower, otherwise known as the Round House (further details available in the attractions listing). The memorable panorama of Monmouth and the distant mountains will make all your efforts worthwhile.

You can now choose between retracing your steps back to Monmouth or following the Offa's path down the hill to the Wye and joining the northwards stretch of the Wye Valley Walk back to Monmouth. This route will increase the total distance of the walk to approximately 8km.
