This route is part of the Ouse Valley Way which is 26 miles / 41.6km along the River Great Ouse and the countryside surrounding it. The route can be broken up into shorter, circular walks, with this one being the first. You will need to be careful near the locks and gravel pits as they are deep and are not suitable for swimming. Trousers and long sleeves are recommended as there can be giant hogweed in the area, which causes serious rashes.

This section of the Ouse Valley Way takes you from Buckden Marina, by Brampton to Godmanchester. There are places to stop for refreshments along the route at Offord Cluny and Godmanchester. There are also shops and pubs in Brampton which is about half a mile off the route. The waymarkings along the way are green with yellow arrows.

Getting there

Parking: There is a car park at Buckden Marina, Offord Cluny, Brampton, Huntingdon and in Post Street, Godmanchester.

Public transport: The nearest bus and train stations are in Huntingdon.

To return to Buckden Marina, from the car park in Post Street, head right to a sharp bend in the road. Walk next to the river and, at the next junction, carry straight on for 100 metres, then turn right along Silver Street, passing Wigmore Farm. After roughly 1.5 miles, the road will bend round to the left. Continue straight ahead on the bridleway, which passes between two fields. After walking for just under a mile, you will reach a stream at a crossroads of paths. Turn right (the stream will be on your left) for about a mile where it will turn right to meet a road. Turn left to go into Offord Cluny. At the main road turn right, passing a church on your left and the Manor House on your right. Turn left along the road beside The Swan pub to cross the railway line. Continue along the road and over the river back to Buckden Marina.
