This route is part of the Ouse Valley Way which is 26 miles / 41.6km along the River Great Ouse and the countryside surrounding it. The route can be broken up into shorter, circular walks, with this one being the first. You will need to be careful near the locks and gravel pits as they are deep and are not suitable for swimming. Trousers and long sleeves are recommended as there can be giant hogweed in the area, which causes serious rashes.

This section of the Ouse Valley Way takes you from Godmanchester, by Hemingford Abbots to Houghton. There are places to stop for refreshments in Godmanchester, Huntingdon and Houghton. There is also a teashop at Houghton Mill. The waymarkings along the way are green with yellow arrows.

Cross over the side road (not the bridge) and just beyond the Old Bridge Hotel, turn left into Castle Park. The hard surface means that this path is suitable for wheelchair users and will take you through the park. Turn left under the main A14 Trunk Road and into Portholme Meadow and take the path straight across to Godmanchester Lock. If you follow the path over the lock you will come to the Chinese Bridge and turning left just before this, you will come out into the car park and Post Street.
