Along this route you will get lovely, peaceful views of the Canal, a delve into history via the old Quarry (from where the stone to construct the buildings in the village came, including St. Lawrence's Church), and a stroll through the wood where you are one with nature.

From 'The Boat Inn' on Wharf Road on the Shropshire Union Canal in the village of Gnosall, take a right onto Wharf Road and after crossing over the canal, turn left into Quarry Lane. Along Quarry Lane will be found the entrance to the old quarry, now privately owned.

Bear left at the top of the lane, continuing past farmland pastures. Turn right along Cowley Lane, passing Cowley Farm on your left. You will then come to Cowley canal bridge. Immediately over the bridge, on your left is the entrance leading down to the canal walk. At the bottom turn left along the towpath, passing the picnic table and seats.

Enjoy the comfortable walk of about half a mile through the cutting and the tunnel before arriving back at 'The Boat Inn'.
