The walk leads you around the Church Marsh nature reserve. This diverse wetland is owned by the RSPB and is home to many bird species. A wonderful introduction to this lovely part of the Yare valley, just east of Norwich. You could also visit the nearby Ted Ellis nature reserve at Wheatfen, or walk around the edge of Rockland Broad.
1. From the car park at the church follow the footpath towards the Yare. The path then follows the river, with scrub and reed fen on the other side.2. If you would prefer a shorter walk you can turn right along the footpath on the second bend in the river.3. If continuing, turn right on the track leading away from the Ferry House Inn. Notice the willow carr on both sides.4. After the gun club, either take the path across the field leading to the ruins of St. Saviour's Church, or stay on the path beside the marsh. Both routes will lead you back to Surlingham Church and your starting point.
