The towpath of the Ashby Canal has been greatly improved in recent years, making it suitable for both walkers and cyclists, although as it is a rural waterway, some areas may make it difficult in the winter. If you would prefer a longer walk, you could start the route further up the canal.
The walk takes you along the Ashby Canal, passing bridges, wharfs and a couple of pubs along the way.

2. Trinity Marina to Limekiln Bridge (1 mile / 1.6km)
The route begins at Trinity Marina, which has a lot of facilities for boaters, such as pump-out, gas, overnight and long term moorings, maps and gifts, telephone, laundrette, cafe and restaurant. There is a shop nearby if you want to get some refreshments for you walk. You will be heading south along the Ashby Canal, passing Hinkley Wharf befire arriving at Limekiln Bridge. There is a pub, The Limekilns Inn, close to the bridge if you would like to stop off for a break. They serve real ale and food all day.

3. Limekilns Bridge to Mill Bridge (2 miles / 3.2km)
Continue to walk along the Ashby Canal, passing by Stretton Baskerville, a medieval village. After passing a number of bridges, you will arrive at Mill Bridge. There is a telephone nearby should you need it and also the village of Burton Hastings.

4. Mill Bridge to Marston Junction (River Trent) (3 miles / 4.8km)
Walk along the canal and you will pass Bramcote Wharf, just after Pipe Bridge. As you get to Bulking Road Bridge, there is a pub and telephone nearby. It is only 1 mile from here to Marston Junction and the River Trent.
