Waypoints
1. Corpach to Loch Lochy
The route begins at Corpach, by the tidal loch Linnhe. There is a pub close by, some supermarkets, so you can get some food and drinks for the walk, and also a train station. After just over a mile, you will come to Neptune's Staircase. It comprises eight locks, each big enough to take sea-going craft and is located near Fort William. Fort William, overlooked by Ben Nevis (Britain’s highest mountain), is a busy staging post for travellers from all directions. Boat trips on the Caledonian Canal are available here. Continue walking along the towpath, passing a couple of aqueducts along the way. After walking through Muishearlich and then passing the Muirshearlich Aqueduct, there will be some beautiful forests on either side of the canal. It is about 2 miles from here to Loch Lochy. The loch is 10 miles long and one mile wide. As you get to the loch, there is Gairlochy Swing Bridge and overnight moorings.
