There are a number of pubs in Bootle if you are wanting some refreshments before you begin the walk. As you walk South along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, you will find that the industrial past of Bootle is obvious. You will also find that the bridges are all lettered on this section, as opposed to the numbering of them on other waterways. Arriving at bridge O, you are a third of the way through this short walk. There is a supermarket just before you arrive at the bridge.

2. Bridge O to Bridge I (1 mile / 1.6km)

Setting of from bridge O, you will continue to walk south towards Liverpool. Carry on along the towpath. You will pass a train station on your way. There are not many places to stop for refreshments in this section before you arrive at Bridge I.

3. Bridge I to Liverpool (1 mile / 1.6km)

Continue along the towpath from Bridge I. The current terminus of the canal is the Eldonian Village which is where Tate & Lyle used to have their sugar refinery. It is possible to walk, from here, to Albert Dock and the city centre in 10 minutes. There is also the unmissable Beatles Magical Mystery Tour, the Tate Gallery and the Maritime Museum. There are many bars, restaurants, shops and stunning views to enjoy within the city.
