A six-mile exploration of town and country around Devizes.
1: Devizes Leave Devizes market place via Snuff Street (by the fountain). At the end of Snuff Street, cross into road opposite and continue straight ahead to the canal bridge and turn right onto the towpath. At the next bridge turn left, cross bridge and enter Quakers Walk through the gate on the right hand side of the railings.
Continue along this track until the housing estate. Go directly across the road into track across a large field, at the end of the field, turn left into another field, keeping the house on your right. Walk along the edge of the field, past a cottage and look for steps on the right leading onto minor road. Turn left and follow the road around a sharp left-hand corner. Cross the road and a stile into a field. The path bears left, then right to a stile. Follow the path up the field (past the pylon) until you meet a tarmac road. Here turn left and after about 250 yrds turn right onto a path along the ridge leading to a small copse. At the end of the path through the trees turn right onto a tarmac road. Follow this road downhill to the hamlet of Roundway.
2: Roundway Go straight on for just over half a mile to the main road. Turn left and at the roundabout cross to the opposite side into Windsor Drive. Keeping to the right hand pavement, cross the bridge and turn right down onto the canal towpath. Follow this for one mile passing three bridges. At the fourth bridge turn left and return to the market place the way you left it.
