Glen Loy Forest Walks
Route facts
Waterways:
Caledonian Canal »
Difficulty: Easy
Starts at: Glen Loy Forest
Ends at: Glen Loy Forest
Located on the west bank of the Caledonian Canal just north of Banavie, the beautiful Glen Loy Forest offers some relaxing walks in a setting rich with indigenous and unusual wildlife and plants.
The Erracht Oakwoods Walk (approx 3.5 miles / 5.6km) provides scenic views across the Great Glen to Ben Nevis. The woods are being managed to allow areas of ancient semi-natural woodland amongst commercial plantations to expand and regenerate. A path leads down through the woods to the River Loy. Keep an eye out for red squirrels, buzzards, pine martin and many more woodland animals in this area.
Strone Viewpoint Walk (approx 3.1 miles / 5km) is an easy walk following a forest road which gives fine views up the Great Glen toward Spean Bridge and down towards Loch Linnhe. This is also one of the few places where you can enjoy a full view of the north face of Ben Nevis and the Grey Corries.
