Chesterfield Canal »

Difficulty: Easy

Starts at: Angel Inn Pub

Ends at: Chesterfield

Starting from the Angel Inn pub in Killamarsh walk towards Norwood Colliery Wharf, where you will be able to see the beautiful lakes of the Rother Valley Country Park stretch out below you. Keep strolling and you will soon see the stone parapet and the top of the bridge hole through which the Chesterfield Canal once passed.

Passing Sheffield Road and descending the steps on the far side of the canal, if you look back you will be able to make out the top of the arch through which the boats once passed. The path here crosses the former bed of the canal, keep walking until you approach a church and a playing field. You will need to turn left here and carry on until you reach Bridge Street. On your right, you will see the Navigation Inn, where you can stop to have a bite to eat and enjoy the peaceful waterside atmosphere.

If you carry on you will be met with a grassy towpath, leading on to Walford Road. Cross Walford Road and continue walking and you will pass a disused railway bridge along Station Road. Continue your stroll along the towpath and you will shortly reach Chesterfield.
