Skipton Millennium Walk
Route facts
Waterways:
Leeds & Liverpool Canal »
Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
Difficulty: Easy
Suitable for: Not suitable for wheelchair users.
Circular route from: Leeds Liverpool Canal piazza
The Skipton Millennium Walk starts at the Springs Branch of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, and the whole course is marked by bronze waymarkers set into the pavements and footpaths. Following these you’ll see Ermysteds Grammar School, and then join the canal again past the newly refurbished Dewhurst’s Mill.
Here you enter the centre of town by crossing Gallows Bridge. The walk briefly passes Caroline Square where there is a memorial plaque to Thomas Spencer, one of the founders of Marks & Spencer, who lived close by. Heading back to the high street you’ll come close to Skipton Castle and the impressive Holy Trinity Church, which nearly could have been Skipton Cathedral. Returning back to the Springs Branch you’ll be able to see High Corn Mill, where you can walk under Mill Bridge and back to the canal piazza.
